Going on a ski holiday with your family is one of the most magical memories you can make. It’s a chance to learn a new skill, experience alpine culture and enjoy the fresh mountain air together.
How to Make Your Family Ski Holiday as Affordable as Possible
-
Look out for family specific accommodation. When you search for your holiday, filter for family-specific properties and resorts that are categorised as “good for families” in our Ski Holiday Search. If you’re considering a hotel, shortlist a few options and check for “family rooms” that can sleep up to six people.
-
Book a catered chalet for great value. Choosing a catered chalet means your flights, transfers, accommodation and food are all included in the price. This often works out as excellent value, especially for families. Some chalets also have rooms with additional beds, and using these third or fourth beds can reduce the overall cost.
-
Spread the cost of your holiday. You can pay your balance in instalments through our easy-to-use customer portal, Manage My Booking.
-
Get the latest offers first. Subscribe to our Offers Alert and be the first to hear about our latest tips, early-access deals and seasonal sales before they’re released to the public.

Cheaper Teen Lift Passes
In 2025, several resorts extended the children’s lift pass age bracket from 12 to 17. This means big savings for families with teenagers. Val Thorens, Meribel and Courchevel have joined Tignes and Val d’Isere in this scheme to make skiing more affordable.
For example, in July 2024 a full-area 3 Valleys adult lift pass cost £307 (previously ages 13 and up), while a children’s pass was £252. With the new policy, children are now defined as ages 5–17, so that £52 saving applies for far longer and makes a real difference for families.
Chalets With Extra Rooms or Beds = Savings!
We have a number of catered chalets in our collection that have 'extra' rooms or beds that we don't include as part of the standard capacity. These extra spaces represent excellent money-savers. Details about the extra rooms or beds in each chalet can be found by clicking the link for each property. Note that if the extra beds are for children only, you will need to call us to make your booking.
Catered Ski Chalets with Cots
If you're looking for a chalet with space for a cot for your little skier or snowboarder, here is a list of all our chalet properties that fit the bill. You may need to request the cot when you make your holiday booking. For any cot-related questions please give our Specialists a call on 0330 102 8004.

What are the Best Ski Resorts for Families?
Choosing the right resort is one of the most important parts of planning a family ski holiday. Every family is different — you might have complete beginners, children ready for their first blue runs, or confident teenagers already racing ahead of you. Wherever you’re at, you’ll want a resort that caters to every level and keeps the whole family happy.
At Skiworld, we’ve drawn on our own experiences and memories to recommend the best family ski resorts, grouped by ability.
Best Resorts for Beginners
Alpe D'Huez
Alpe d’Huez is a fantastic resort for families with beginners. The two dedicated beginner areas — Rif Nel and Les Jeux — provide safe spaces to learn, with a dozen gentle green runs nearby to build confidence. The variety of terrain across the resort also means families can progress together at their own pace.
La Plagne
La Plagne is a brilliant choice for first-time skiers. Much of the ski area sits on a wide, gentle plateau, making it perfect for beginners to find their feet. With 11 villages to choose from, families often prefer Belle Plagne or Plagne Centre, where access to the easier slopes is best. The wide cruising runs are ideal for building skills without pressure.
La Rosiere
Quieter and more intimate than some of the larger Alpine resorts, La Rosière is ideal for families seeking charm and calm. The nursery slopes are just a short lift ride from the village centres, and the excellent local ski schools are highly rated. It’s a welcoming and relaxed base for families new to skiing.
Les Arcs
Les Arcs is a great option for families with beginners thanks to its four “ski tranquille” zones dedicated to novices, plus 10 free beginner lifts. While the resort skips the green run classification, many of its blue runs are gentle enough to feel like greens, making it easy to progress.
Best Resorts for Intermediates
The 3 Valleys (Courchevel, Meribel, Val Thorens)
The world’s largest ski area offers over 600km of pistes, so families never run out of new runs to try. The terrain is incredibly varied, which means there’s something for every skier, from cautious cruisers to adventurous intermediates.
Courchevel
Although Courchevel has a reputation for luxury, it’s actually very family-friendly — especially for intermediates looking to progress. The well-groomed pistes are confidence-boosting, and outside of Courchevel 1850, prices are much more reasonable than you might think. From here, you can also explore the full Three Valleys area.
Meribel
Méribel is the picture-perfect Alpine resort, with chocolate-box chalets and a welcoming atmosphere. Families are well catered for with excellent ski schools, dedicated sledging areas, and fun kid-friendly zones like Inuit Villages and mini slalom courses. It’s an easy resort for intermediates to explore while children enjoy tailored on- and off-slope activities.
Val Thorens
As the highest resort in the Three Valleys, Val Thorens guarantees excellent snow throughout the season. Its broad nursery slopes make it a great place for beginners to progress, while intermediates can roam widely across the valley. Families also love the extra activities, such as the longest toboggan run in France and the unforgettable torchlit descent by ski instructors.
Kids Ski School
At Skiworld, we only partner with the very best ski schools in resort. Whether it’s your child’s very first lesson, or you’d like a private guide to show your family the best terrain, we can help. Our Ski Specialists can recommend the most suitable ski school for your needs and even pre-book lessons before you travel, so everything is organised in advance.
For children, ski school is more than just lessons! It’s a chance to make new friends, build confidence and enjoy the mountains in a safe, supervised environment. Many resorts also offer “learn-to-ski” areas or fun zones specifically designed for kids, making those first turns all the more enjoyable.
For adults, whether you’re brushing up on technique or exploring more challenging runs, group lessons and private guiding are available. A ski guide can also take the stress out of navigation, ensuring you get the very best from your time on the slopes.

Childcare and Private Nanny Services
You’re never too young to enjoy a family ski holiday, and that’s why many Skiworld resorts offer high-quality childcare facilities. From local crèches for little ones to pre-ski school kindergartens for toddlers, there are plenty of options if not everyone in the family is ready to ski.
For extra flexibility, private nanny services are also available in many resorts. Companies such as T4 Nanny provide professional, fun and reliable care in the comfort of your chalet or apartment. This gives parents the freedom to enjoy a full day on the slopes, knowing that children are safe, happy and entertained. Because nannies are in high demand during peak weeks, we always recommend booking childcare at the same time as your ski holiday. The local tourist office is also a helpful resource for the most up-to-date childcare options in your chosen resort.
For complete peace of mind, look out for childcare professionals who are DBS/CRB checked, first-aid trained, and highly recommended by other families. That way, you can relax knowing your children are in the very best hands.
