The Portes du Soleil comprises a massive 12 individual ski resorts spanning the French and Swiss border. With a claim of over 650km of skiable runs in the area, not only will it keep even the most capable and quickest skiers and snowboarders busy, but at £244 for an adult 6 day full area pass (2018/19 season), it’s by far the best value pass in the Alps.
Avoriaz and Morzine are arguable the most well known resorts in the Portes du Soleil area, both offering a unique experience but similarly fantastic views, facilities and access to the massive ski area.

Avoriaz
Avoriaz is for all intents and purposes a pedestrian only resort. Modern and purpose built with mostly ski-in/ski-out accommodation it exudes plenty of character with traditionally alpine wood-clad buildings set against the mountainous backdrop. With 3 major snowparks, Avoriaz is somewhat of a Mecca for freestyle skiers and snowboarders. It’s a resort that certainly focuses on fun with a range of no-skiing activities and also Aquariaz - the massive indoor water park

Morzine
You may often hear that Morzine is too low to be a decent ski resort, but the unique microclimate it enjoys, being sandwiched between Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc means the weather and snow are just as good as resorts with much higher altitudes. With a transfer time of just 90 minutes from Geneva, it’s one of the shorter journeys to resort too.
As a mountain town that helped to form the blueprint of many modern ski resorts, Morzine is full of shops, boutiques, bars and restaurants. With the non-skiing and après side of things well taken care of, you can enjoy skiing the 650km of pistes in the Port du Soleil knowing there’s plenty of fun to be had at the end of the day.

Les Gets
Families are best catered for in Les Gets, with its well-designed everything-close-by layout and fantastic infrastructure. Most of the accommodation is very close to the lifts and the beginner slopes are immaculately maintained. However, experienced skiers should read on… as access to the Mont Chery ski area is really easy, plunging you into a whole host of challenging red and black and off-piste runs.
