Will Moleshead (Skiworld Commercial and Product Department)
"We were told our guide would be showing us part of the mountain not normally accessible – We didn’t realise until the end why this was! After meeting at the bottom of the Olympic bubble at 9am we proceed to make our way to the top of the Tommeuses lift (the midpoint between Val D’isere and Tignes and the top of the Toviere peak). At this point we removed our skis and proceed to trek a precarious pass along the peaks to the couloir we were going to drop in on; a narrow gully only wide enough for a couple of turns. It was a daunting drop into knee deep snow but after clearing the couloir the route opened out into a large powder field where all our group of 6 all had fresh lines.
During the second half of the tour we descended between tight trees with a picturesque view of the lake in front of us - It was an incredible ski. We finally came to stop at a plateau, right on the lakeside – the only civilisation visible; the road off in the distance on the other side of the water. We couldn’t see a way back to resort apart from a very long hike until our helicopter swiped in and landed next to us. It took us back into Tignes Val Claret where we stopped for a well-deserved beer and maybe a few toffee vodka shots. A great end to an epic day!"
