Family Ski Holidays 2025/26

Going on a ski holiday with your family is one of the most magical memories you can make. It’s a chance to learn a new skill, experience alpine culture and enjoy the fresh mountain air together.

How to Make Your Family Ski Holiday as Affordable as Possible

  • Look out for family specific accommodation. When you search for your holiday, filter for family-specific properties and resorts that are categorised as “good for families” in our Ski Holiday Search. If you’re considering a hotel, shortlist a few options and check for “family rooms” that can sleep up to six people.
  • Book a catered chalet for great value. Choosing a catered chalet means your flights, transfers, accommodation and food are all included in the price. This often works out as excellent value, especially for families. Some chalets also have rooms with additional beds, and using these third or fourth beds can reduce the overall cost.
  • Spread the cost of your holiday. You can pay your balance in instalments through our easy-to-use customer portal, Manage My Booking.
  • Get the latest offers first. Subscribe to our Offers Alert and be the first to hear about our latest tips, early-access deals and seasonal sales before they’re released to the public.

Cheaper Teen Lift Passes

In 2025, several resorts extended the children’s lift pass age bracket from 12 to 17. This means big savings for families with teenagers. Val Thorens, Meribel and Courchevel have joined Tignes and Val d’Isere in this scheme to make skiing more affordable.

For example, in July 2024 a full-area 3 Valleys adult lift pass cost £307 (previously ages 13 and up), while a children’s pass was £252. With the new policy, children are now defined as ages 5–17, so that £52 saving applies for far longer and makes a real difference for families.

Chalets With Extra Rooms or Beds = Savings!

We have a number of catered chalets in our collection that have 'extra' rooms or beds that we don't include as part of the standard capacity. These extra spaces represent excellent money-savers. Details about the extra rooms or beds in each chalet can be found by clicking the link for each property. Note that if the extra beds are for children only, you will need to call us to make your booking.

When is the Best Time to Go on a Family Ski Holiday?

Christmas

Every child dreams of a white Christmas, and on a Skiworld holiday we make it truly magical for the whole family. Picture your own festive ski chalet, complete with all the trimmings to make it a cosy home-from-home in the snow. From special touches to festive extras, we take care of everything so you can focus on making memories. Discover more on our Christmas Ski Deals page.

New Year

Ring in the New Year in style with a family ski holiday in the mountains. Swap crowded city streets for a snowy alpine retreat where the celebrations are every bit as lively but twice as memorable. With torchlit descents, fireworks and plenty of après fun, resorts come alive at this time of year. Find out what’s waiting for you on our New Year Ski Deals page.

February Half Term

February half term is one of the most popular times for families to ski — and with good reason. The snow is at its best, resorts are buzzing with activity, and there’s no better way to keep the kids entertained. Give the whole family a well-deserved break and enjoy days filled with skiing, snow, and mountain adventures. Start planning with our Half Term Ski Deals.

Easter

Easter is a fantastic choice for a family ski holiday, thanks to longer, sunnier days and excellent late-season snow. Resorts often add to the fun with Easter egg hunts, family-friendly celebrations and end-of-season parties. It’s the perfect blend of spring sunshine and snowy slopes. Explore our Easter Ski Deals to see what’s on offer.

What are the Best Ski Resorts for Families?

Choosing the right resort is one of the most important parts of planning a family ski holiday. Every family is different — you might have complete beginners, children ready for their first blue runs, or confident teenagers already racing ahead of you. Wherever you’re at, you’ll want a resort that caters to every level and keeps the whole family happy.

At Skiworld, we’ve drawn on our own experiences and memories to recommend the best family ski resorts, grouped by ability.

Best Resorts for Beginners

Alpe D'Huez

Alpe d’Huez is a fantastic resort for families with beginners. The two dedicated beginner areas — Rif Nel and Les Jeux — provide safe spaces to learn, with a dozen gentle green runs nearby to build confidence. The variety of terrain across the resort also means families can progress together at their own pace.

La Plagne

La Plagne is a brilliant choice for first-time skiers. Much of the ski area sits on a wide, gentle plateau, making it perfect for beginners to find their feet. With 11 villages to choose from, families often prefer Belle Plagne or Plagne Centre, where access to the easier slopes is best. The wide cruising runs are ideal for building skills without pressure.

La Rosiere

Quieter and more intimate than some of the larger Alpine resorts, La Rosière is ideal for families seeking charm and calm. The nursery slopes are just a short lift ride from the village centres, and the excellent local ski schools are highly rated. It’s a welcoming and relaxed base for families new to skiing.

Les Arcs

Les Arcs is a great option for families with beginners thanks to its four “ski tranquille” zones dedicated to novices, plus 10 free beginner lifts. While the resort skips the green run classification, many of its blue runs are gentle enough to feel like greens, making it easy to progress.

Best Resorts for Intermediates

The 3 Valleys (Courchevel, Meribel, Val Thorens)

The world’s largest ski area offers over 600km of pistes, so families never run out of new runs to try. The terrain is incredibly varied, which means there’s something for every skier, from cautious cruisers to adventurous intermediates.

Courchevel

Although Courchevel has a reputation for luxury, it’s actually very family-friendly — especially for intermediates looking to progress. The well-groomed pistes are confidence-boosting, and outside of Courchevel 1850, prices are much more reasonable than you might think. From here, you can also explore the full Three Valleys area.

Meribel

Méribel is the picture-perfect Alpine resort, with chocolate-box chalets and a welcoming atmosphere. Families are well catered for with excellent ski schools, dedicated sledging areas, and fun kid-friendly zones like Inuit Villages and mini slalom courses. It’s an easy resort for intermediates to explore while children enjoy tailored on- and off-slope activities.

Val Thorens

As the highest resort in the Three Valleys, Val Thorens guarantees excellent snow throughout the season. Its broad nursery slopes make it a great place for beginners to progress, while intermediates can roam widely across the valley. Families also love the extra activities, such as the longest toboggan run in France and the unforgettable torchlit descent by ski instructors.

Kids Ski School

At Skiworld, we only partner with the very best ski schools in resort. Whether it’s your child’s very first lesson, or you’d like a private guide to show your family the best terrain, we can help. Our Ski Specialists can recommend the most suitable ski school for your needs and even pre-book lessons before you travel, so everything is organised in advance.

For children, ski school is more than just lessons! It’s a chance to make new friends, build confidence and enjoy the mountains in a safe, supervised environment. Many resorts also offer “learn-to-ski” areas or fun zones specifically designed for kids, making those first turns all the more enjoyable.

For adults, whether you’re brushing up on technique or exploring more challenging runs, group lessons and private guiding are available. A ski guide can also take the stress out of navigation, ensuring you get the very best from your time on the slopes.

Childcare and Private Nanny Services

You’re never too young to enjoy a family ski holiday, and that’s why many Skiworld resorts offer high-quality childcare facilities. From local crèches for little ones to pre-ski school kindergartens for toddlers, there are plenty of options if not everyone in the family is ready to ski.

t4 nanny private childcare in ski resorts

For extra flexibility, private nanny services are also available in many resorts. Companies such as T4 Nanny provide professional, fun and reliable care in the comfort of your chalet or apartment. This gives parents the freedom to enjoy a full day on the slopes, knowing that children are safe, happy and entertained. Because nannies are in high demand during peak weeks, we always recommend booking childcare at the same time as your ski holiday. The local tourist office is also a helpful resource for the most up-to-date childcare options in your chosen resort.

For complete peace of mind, look out for childcare professionals who are DBS/CRB checked, first-aid trained, and highly recommended by other families. That way, you can relax knowing your children are in the very best hands.

What to Consider for Family Ski Holidays

Booking a family ski holiday can feel like a big task with so many options available. That’s where Skiworld comes in. Our knowledgeable Ski Specialists are on hand every step of the way, from recommending the best family ski resorts to finding accommodation that suits your needs, and even advising on ski schools and lessons.

Here are the key things to think about when planning your family ski trip:

  • Travel Time – Early morning flights or resorts with long transfer times can be tough with little ones. The good news is that many of our family-friendly resorts are within short transfer distances, making the journey easier and giving you more time on the slopes.
  • Choice of Resort – Think about the mix of abilities in your family. Some resorts are perfect for beginners, while others are ideal for confident intermediates or mixed-ability families. It’s also worth choosing a destination with plenty to do off the slopes. Think ice skating and swimming pools to toboggan runs and evening entertainment.
  • Choice of Accommodation – Your accommodation is the heart of your holiday. Self-catered apartments often offer ski-in/ski-out convenience, but our catered ski chalets provide a true home-from-home with hearty meals, cosy living spaces, and mostly en-suite rooms. Hotels are also a great option for families looking for facilities like pools, spas or kids’ clubs.
  • Self Drive Ski Holidays - Driving to the Alps can be a fantastic option for families, offering more flexibility and the comfort of bringing as much luggage as you like. Our self-drive packages include Le Shuttle (formerley known as the Eurotunnel) crossings plus accommodation, giving you complete control over your travel schedule.
  • Childcare – Will you need childcare during your stay? Many resorts offer excellent ski schools, kindergartens and crèches. Private nannies are also available in selected resorts for flexible, high-quality care. Booking early is highly recommended, especially for peak weeks.
  • Room Configurations – Think about whether you’ll need family rooms or interconnecting rooms, or whether your teenagers would prefer their own space. Skiworld offers a wide choice of family ski accommodation, from chalets with bunk rooms to hotels with spacious suites.

More Great Reasons to Book a Family Ski Holiday with Skiworld

Please note: For chalet holidays, any price reductions apply to the "full" adult price and do not include any supplements such as room or flight supplements. These reductions do not apply to rooms in which children aged 2 - 11 are already enjoying reduced-price places (which are also not combinable with any group discounts). These reductions apply to holidays which include Skiworld charter flights and Skiworld catered chalet accommodation. Free places are limited to one per family. Please read the booking conditions and important information. Infants are children under the age of 2 on the return date of travel and this charge applies provided that no flight, coach or train seat is used and that a cot is used in the resort.
