Overview of Montgenevre

A French ski resort situated 2km from the Italian border and connected with one of the most vast ski areas in Italy - The Milky Way ski circuit - offering 400km of runs and incorporating the well known resorts of Sauze d'Oulx and Sestriere. You can also easily access Serre Chevalier and Puy St Vincent by car, as well as Les Deux Alpes and Alpe d'Huez if the road conditions are favourable.

The village itself, perched on a sunny slope at 1,850m, is traditional yet becoming more modern in recent years with a number of new accommodations offering fabulous access to the slopes.

Skiing and Boarding in Montgenevre

This is a great mixed-ability resort. If you're only just finding out about it, don't let its relatively unknown status fool you - Montgenevre has been a French favourite for years. The vast majority of the 100km of local area slopes are geared towards beginner and intermediate skiers (around 70%) with the remaining black runs varying in difficulty too. As a bonus, there is also masses of off piste skiing to be had throughout the Milky Way.

An altitude of 1850m and the position of Montgenevre lends itself to both consistent snowfall (often better on the French side than the Italian) and also regular sunny days. These kind of conditions are perfect for long ski days exploring the 400km and 7 resorts of the Milky Way ski area: Sauze d'Oulx, Sestriere, Claviere, Pragelato, Sansicario, Cesana and of course Montgenevre itself.

Lift Passes in Montgenevre

Montes des Lune - The 'local' pass is pretty substantial and you may find it perfectly sufficient for a week's ski holiday. Bear in mind the slopes of Montgenevre and Claviere offer 100km+ of skiing which is a fair amount in itself. With this pass you can also ski one day in the Milky Way - Sauze d'Oulx is the most popular choice - or remain in France and drive to Serre Chevalier for a ski-away day (part of the partnered 'Grande Galaxie' area).

Full Area - If you're keen to put some serious miles into your ski boots, the Milky Way full area pass is available from Montgenevre and includes all the resorts in the Milky Way plus one day in each of the Grand Galaxie resorts.

Activities in Montgenevre

• Luge Monty - The longest run in France at 1400 meters, the toboggan can reach the maximum speed of 60 km/h. The circuit winds through the forest, linking curves, before crossing the two tunnels and reaching the finish area. The track is lit for night descents in winter as well.
• Centre de Balneo & Spa Durancia - Located at an altitude of 1860m. Enjoy the benefits of water at 34°C. Hot tubs, Jacuzzis, counter-current river, massage jets, sauna and hammam await you for a relaxing afternoon. The heated outdoor pool surrounded by snow and the lagoon is perfect for all ages. For total relaxation enjoy the Kneipp course, saline mist cabin, saunas, Onsen outdoor pool heated to 36°C and zone relaxation with tea and herbal tea.
• Nordic Ski - Cross-country skiing is a fantastic way to enjoy the slopes, with fifteen km of circuits at the foot of the village.
• Multi-Activity Area – a wooded area that has become a haven for those looking to walk, stroll, snowshoe, fatbike, cross-country ski, ski touring, etc
• Ice Rink - Open during the day or in the evening. Try your hand at ice skating or take part in activities on ice with family, groups or friends.

Although Montgenevre isn't a big party resort, there are a few haunts which will keep you entertained...

• Le Graal - A familiar style of apres venue, with a large sun deck, ample seating indoors with sports on the big screen, a long drinks list and good selection of pub-grub style food. Popular with locals and tourists alike.
• Le Tourmente - A traditional cellar bar which is popular with the locals. Daily happy hours after the lifts close, which is a great opportunity to sample a cocktail, or three!
• Exit Pub - If you have the energy later in the evening, get your dancing shoes on and head for the Exit. Always a vibrant nighttime atmosphere.
• The Captain – This simple Italian restaurant in Montgenèvre is a go to for pizzas and hearty pasta dishes.

Places to eat in Montgenevre

Montgenèvre is a quiet family village with original Alpine charm. Most people eat in the village and there’s a good selection of restaurants which vary in style. The food, being Italian, is generally good and is reasonably priced.

• Table Blanche at the Hotel Le Chalet Blanc – for something to elevate your holiday, this restaurant has superb views of the mountains. The menus are crafted by a highly trained team who prepare seasonal dishes using local ingredients. Staff are very accommodating and are happy to make off-menu dishes.
• Le Jamy - A good spot for upmarket dining. The menu is small but well thought out. Try the beef bourguignon or the pigeon and boar steak. Make sure to leave room for puddings– choose from favourites such as chocolate mousse, profiteroles and creme brûlée.
• Le Graal – an excellent choice for lunch - choose from burgers, omelettes and a wide range of salads at cosy café/restaurant. The portions are generously sized so a great place to re-fuel!
• The Trio - Traditional cuisine and mountain specialties.

Family Features Montgenevre

• The Fun Path - A fun course of around 1,500 meters, with banked turns and a drop of nearly 250 meters. This fun path is accessible from the Alp ski lift and the Gondrans chairlift and great way to break up the day with children.
• Toboggan Area – Perfect for families looking for some non-skiing fun!
• The Yurt – A traditional Nomadic hut made from materials which are entirely natural: animal and plant fibres. You can try your hand at a Montagnard snack over the fire or a cheese fondue.
