Banff offers one of the largest and most varied ski experiences in North America, built around three separate ski areas known as SkiBig3: Banff Sunshine, Lake Louise and Mount Norquay. Unlike many European resorts, these mountains are not lift-linked and are instead accessed individually from the town of Banff. This guide focuses on Banff Sunshine, where the ski area is divided into several distinct mountain sectors, each with its own piste map. The maps below cover the main areas of Goat’s Eye Mountain, Lookout Mountain and Mount Standish, which together form the core of the Banff Sunshine ski resort.
Further down the page, you’ll find a clear overview of how each sector is structured on the piste map, helping you understand where the terrain sits, how the lifts are organised, and how each mountain face is laid out.

Banff Sunshine Goat's Eye Mountain piste ski map explained
The Goat’s Eye Mountain ski area is organised as a single, steep mountain face, rising from the gondola base at the bottom of the map and extending vertically to the summit ridge above. The main lift line (Goat’s Eye Express) runs directly up the centre, acting as the primary access route to all terrain.
-
From the top of the lift, runs spread out across the mountain face. The central section is densely packed with fall-line descents that run straight down towards the base, creating a clear top-to-bottom skiing flow. These runs are closely spaced and parallel, making this the most direct and continuous skiing zone on the map.
-
To the left side of the map, the terrain opens into wider lines with fewer runs, including freeride zones such as Wild West. This side appears less structured, with larger gaps between pistes and more natural terrain features.
-
To the right side, the map shows a mix of marked runs and more technical zones, including areas like Delirium Dive, which sit slightly separated from the main lift-served slopes and require specific access. This side is visually more complex, with traverses and entry points branching away from the main flow.
-
At the bottom of the map, all runs funnel back into the gondola base area, creating a clear return point regardless of the route taken from the top.

Banff Sunshine Lookout Mountain piste ski map explained
The Lookout Mountain sector is positioned on the right side of the Banff Sunshine piste map, forming the highest and most exposed part of the ski area. The terrain rises from the central base area around the gondola and village zone, with multiple lifts (including Angel Express and Teepee Town) feeding into the upper ridge.
-
At the top of the map, the terrain opens along a high ridge line beneath Lookout Mountain, where several runs drop directly down the front face. These descents are clearly visible as long, straight fall-line pistes running from the summit towards mid-mountain.
-
The central section of Lookout Mountain is structured around a dense cluster of parallel runs descending towards the base. These runs are closely spaced and consistently oriented top-to-bottom, creating a strong vertical skiing flow back towards the main village area.
-
To the left side of this sector, the terrain transitions towards Goat’s Eye Mountain, with visible connections feeding into that adjacent map. This side appears steeper and more technical, with less spacing between runs and more direct fall-line descents.
-
To the right side, the map shows a more open boundary area with fewer marked pistes and longer traversing routes, including cat track-style connections that move across the mountain rather than directly down.
-
At the bottom of the sector, all runs funnel back into the central base area around the gondola, Strawberry Express and surrounding lifts, making this a clearly defined top-to-bottom ski zone.

Banff Sunshine Mount Standish piste ski map explained
Mount Standish is located on the left side of the Banff Sunshine piste map, directly opposite Lookout Mountain, with the central village and gondola base sitting between the two sectors. The terrain rises from the base area via lifts such as the Strawberry Express and Standish Express, which run up through the centre of the sector and provide access to the upper slopes.
-
At the top of the map, the terrain splits into multiple ridgelines, with runs dropping from both sides of the lift lines. Compared to Lookout Mountain, the layout here is more spread out, with wider spacing between pistes and more variation in direction.
-
The central section of Mount Standish shows a mix of winding and straight descents, with several runs curving back towards the base rather than following a strict fall line. This creates a more varied skiing pattern across the mountain face.
-
To the left side, the terrain extends towards Sunshine Meadows and Rock Isle Lake, where the map shows more open areas and fewer defined pistes, indicating a transition zone away from the main lift-served runs.
-
To the right side, the slopes reconnect towards the central village area, with multiple return routes feeding back into the gondola base and main lift hub.
-
At the bottom of the sector, all runs converge into the same base area as Lookout Mountain, creating a shared return point across the ski area.
