Montgenèvre ski area overview

The Montgenèvre ski area is laid out across a natural ridge that forms the border between France and Italy, with the resort positioned centrally on the map and skiing extending in two main directions across distinct sectors.

  • At the centre, Montgenèvre (1,860 m) forms the main base area, where the front de neige and village lifts provide direct access into all parts of the ski domain. This central zone is where beginner areas, ski schools and the highest concentration of green and blue pistes are located, making it the primary starting point visible on the map.
  • To the right-hand side of the map (south/south-east), the Chalvet sector (Secteur du Chalvet) rises above the resort and offers predominantly sunny slopes with a mix of blue, red and some black runs. This area is clearly separated on the map and is well suited to progressing skiers, with open terrain and good exposure throughout the day.
  • To the upper right and ridge line, the Gondrans sector (Secteur des Gondrans) sits at higher altitude and is easily identifiable on the map by its wide, open plateau. This area features a mix of beginner and intermediate terrain alongside fun zones such as the snowpark and boardercross, making it one of the most versatile sectors in the resort.
  • To the left-hand side of the map (west towards Italy), the ski area extends into the Monts de la Lune sector, forming the direct link with Claviere and the wider Via Lattea ski area. This side of the map is characterised by longer descents, a higher proportion of red runs and a more expansive, cross-border layout, allowing skiers to move seamlessly between France and Italy.
  • At the far left edge of the map, the connection continues deeper into Italy towards resorts such as Sestriere, highlighting Montgenèvre’s role as a gateway to one of Europe’s largest international ski domains.
