Méribel ski map

Located in the heart of the Three Valleys (Les 3 Vallées), Méribel offers direct access to the largest interconnected ski area in the world. Positioned between Courchevel and Val Thorens, the resort acts as a central hub, allowing skiers to move seamlessly across the entire domain. The Méribel valley includes several villages (Méribel Centre, Méribel-Mottaret, Méribel Village, La Raffort and Les Allues), all connected by lifts and pistes. The ski terrain ranges from tree-lined slopes at lower altitude to high-alpine sectors above 2,900 m, offering a balanced mix of terrain for all levels. As well as its world-class skiing, Méribel is known for its traditional Alpine architecture and wide range of accommodation, including some of the best ski chalets in the Alps, making it a popular choice for both families and groups looking for a well-rounded ski holiday.

Méribel ski area

Méribel sits at the centre of the Three Valleys and offers approximately 150 km of pistes within its own sector, with direct access to the wider 600 km interconnected ski domain. The ski area extends from around 1,400 m to 2,952 m, with higher lift access available across the Three Valleys. The terrain is spread across both sides of the valley, combining sunny open slopes with north-facing sectors that preserve snow quality. Méribel is structured around several key areas, including Méribel Centre, Méribel-Mottaret and the surrounding villages, all linked by an efficient lift system. Its central location makes it one of the best bases for exploring the entire Three Valleys.

Méribel's main ski sectors by ability

  • For beginners, Méribel offers a strong selection of green and blue runs particularly around the Altiport area and Méribel-Mottaret, such as Faon and Crêtes, with easy access to lifts and resort facilities.
  • Intermediate skiers will find Méribel particularly rewarding, with a large network of blue and red pistes connecting different parts of the valley. Runs such as Choucas and Pic Bleu offer long, flowing descents with consistent gradients and excellent scenery.
  • For advanced and expert skiers, the Mont Vallon sector is a key highlight, featuring challenging runs such as Combe Vallon, known for its north-facing snow quality. Other demanding pistes include Roc de Fer, an Olympic downhill run, and the steep couloirs such as Couloir Tournier, requiring strong technical ability.

Méribel lift system

The Méribel ski area is served by a modern and efficient network of 43 ski lifts connecting all sectors of the resort and linking directly into the wider Three Valleys domain.

Lift types include:

  • Gondolas (télécabines)
  • Chairlifts (télésièges)
  • Drag lifts (téléskis)
  • Beginner carpets

Lifts practical considerations

  1. Mottaret lift hub: Méribel-Mottaret acts as a major lift hub, with high-speed gondolas and chairlifts connecting skiers towards both Val Thorens and Courchevel. The Plattières gondola, significantly upgraded, now offers faster transport and increased capacity, improving flow across the ski area.
  2. : The La Chaudanne lift hub is the main departure point in Méribel, serving multiple gondolas and chairlifts. Recent improvements, including upgrades to the Saulire Express gondola, have reduced travel times and improved comfort, allowing quicker access to upper mountain sectors.
  3. Beginner lift infrastructure: Beginner areas are well integrated into the lift network, particularly in Méribel Centre and Mottaret. New installations such as the Ourson magic carpet improve accessibility for beginners and are clearly marked on the piste map.
