Flaine ski map explained

On the Grand Massif piste map, Flaine is located in the upper right section, forming the highest and most elevated part of the ski area, with terrain rising from Flaine Forum and Flaine Front de Neige (around 1,600 m) up to Les Grandes Platières at 2,480 m.

  • At the centre of this sector, Flaine appears as a high-altitude plateau with direct ski-in/ski-out access, where multiple lifts converge and spread outward across the mountain. From this central base, the map clearly shows a dense network of blue and red pistes, making this area particularly suited to intermediate skiing, with wide, open slopes dominating the terrain.
  • Above Flaine, the map rises towards Les Grandes Platières (top right), the highest point in the ski area. From here, several long descents are visible dropping back towards Flaine, including a mix of red and black pistes, alongside more accessible blue routes that allow progression from the summit. This upper zone is clearly more exposed, with fewer trees and stronger snow reliability.
  • Slightly below and to the skier’s right, the map highlights Flaine Forêt and Flaine Montsoleil, with Flaine Vernant (1,740 m) positioned as a secondary hub. This area shows a mix of connecting pistes and lift lines linking the upper slopes back down towards the lower sectors, acting as an intermediate transition level between the summit and the wider Grand Massif.
  • From the Flaine sector, the piste map shows a clear leftward connection across the mountain, with routes leading towards the central ridge that links into Samoëns. These runs are predominantly blue and red, forming long, continuous descents that connect the high-altitude Flaine bowl to the rest of the ski area.
  • Below this, the terrain begins to drop into more tree-lined slopes towards Morillon and Les Carroz, visible on the map as denser, lower-altitude skiing. These sectors provide contrast to Flaine’s open alpine terrain and create natural return routes from the higher slopes.

Flaine ski slopes

  • For beginners, the easiest terrain is concentrated around Flaine Forum (1,600 m) and Flaine Forêt (1,700 m), where the map shows a dense cluster of green and gentle blue pistes directly above the resort. These lower slopes are wide, well-connected and served by short lifts, creating a compact learning area before moving higher on the mountain.
  • For intermediate skiers, the core terrain sits above the resort on the broad central plateau between Flaine and Aup de Véran, where a network of blue and red pistes spreads across open, high-altitude slopes. From here, long cruising runs descend back towards Flaine or extend across the domain towards Les Carroz and Samoëns, making this the main progression and linking zone visible on the map.
  • For advanced skiers, the most technical slopes are located on the upper ridgelines surrounding the Flaine bowl, particularly under Les Grandes Platières (2,480 m) at the top of the map. This area shows a higher concentration of red and black pistes, with steeper gradients and more exposed terrain, as well as access to freeride zones and ungroomed itineraries.
