San Cassiano sits on the south-eastern side of the Alta Badia ski area, offering a slightly quieter and more scenic entry point into one of the most interconnected ski domains in the Dolomites. Positioned between La Villa and the Lagazuoi/Armentarola sector, it combines gentle valley skiing with direct access to some of the most iconic ski routes in the region. From wide, flowing intermediate terrain above the village to long panoramic descents towards Armentarola and the Dolomiti Superski circuit, the area is particularly well suited to skiers who want variety without complexity. Understanding how San Cassiano connects across Alta Badia, and beyond towards the Sella Ronda and Lagazuoi, is key to planning your ski days efficiently.

San Cassiano ski map explained
San Cassiano is located in the lower centre-right of the Alta Badia piste map, at 1,537 m, forming a key junction between the main Alta Badia circuit and the Lagazuoi/Armentarola extension visible further to the east.
-
Directly above the village, the Piz Sorega (2,003 m) and Piz La Ila (2,100 m) sectors form the core ski area, with a dense lift network spreading west towards La Villa and Corvara. These slopes are predominantly wide and rolling, designed for smooth progression and long cruising runs, with multiple connections feeding into the central Alta Badia plateau.
-
To the west, the terrain gradually opens towards La Villa and Corvara, linking into the wider Alta Badia circuit and providing access to the Sella Ronda. This side of the map is characterised by flowing ridge skiing around Pralongià, with panoramic routes and continuous links across the valley.
-
To the east, the map clearly shows the transition towards the Armentarola and Lagazuoi sector, one of the most distinctive areas in the Dolomites. This section sits beyond San Cassiano and leads towards Passo Falzarego and Lagazuoi (2,778 m), where high-alpine terrain replaces the more rounded Alta Badia slopes. The return route via the Armentarola run is a defining feature, finishing with the well-known horse-drawn tow across the valley floor.
At lower altitude, gentle slopes descend back into San Cassiano, creating a natural base area with easy access to lifts and a smooth flow between sectors. The layout makes San Cassiano one of the most intuitive starting points in Alta Badia, with clear outward progression towards both the central ski area and the high Dolomite passes.
San Cassiano ski slopes
The slopes around San Cassiano are primarily concentrated above the village on the Piz Sorega and Piz La Ila sectors, where the map shows a high density of blue and red runs forming wide, flowing ski lines ideal for intermediate cruising.
-
Beginner terrain is located close to the village and on the lower slopes, where gentle gradients and short lift systems create a controlled learning environment with easy returns to San Cassiano.
-
Intermediate skiers will find the most extensive terrain across the central sectors linking San Cassiano to La Villa and Corvara, where long red and blue pistes follow natural ridgelines and allow continuous skiing across Alta Badia without technical difficulty.
-
Advanced skiers are better served by moving east towards the Lagazuoi and Armentarola sector, where longer descents, more varied terrain, and higher altitude skiing provide a more challenging experience compared to the central Alta Badia slopes.
