Overview of Canazei

Canazei is a Ladin-speaking village in the Italian Dolomite valley of Val di Fassa. With some unique skiing in its own boundaries, the town is often ‘twinned’ with its neighbour Campitello for the purposes of accessing one of the region’s main skiing draws – the Sella Ronda.

The village is proudly traditional and even in a town offering all the modern comforts you could want, the heritage and customs of the ancient Ladin culture are woven into the town and people. History and art are popular aspects of the culture in Canazei, but it’s the gastronomy, hospitality and excellently curated pistes which will make your ski holiday to the Val di Fassa unforgettable.

3 Things We Love About Canazei

  1. Access to the Sella Ronda and the 1,200km of skiing in the Dolomiti Superski
  2. The neighbouring 6 villages in the Val di Fassa including Campitello and Pozza
  3. Great selection of après bars and rifuges on the mountain and dotted through the villages.

Skiing and Snowboarding in Canazei

From the main street in the village you can catch the gondola half way up the valley and then choose from two lifts; the Toé which takes you to the top of the local slopes or the Col dei Rossi cable car to the top of the ridge – and out into the wider area. The local slopes are pisted into the wide open bowl above the village and are generally intermediate across the board – excellent for getting your ski legs back.

Access to the Sella Ronda is either via the Sass Becè chair which connects you with Arabba, or via the Pradel-Rodella gondola above the village Campitello, which connects with Selva Val Gardena. From all routes out it’s possible to plan a route home for all levels of skier right back into the village.

Lift Passes in Canazei

The local Val di Fassa – Carezza lift pass will give you access to 210km of skiing, including the Sella Ronda and seven local villages.

However, to really make the most of the region, opt for the full area, Dolomiti Superski pass. 1,200km of pistes and access to all 12 villages in the region – which is the biggest ski area in Europe!

Places to eat in Canazei

There are places to eat all over Canazei, with most (if not all) hotels opening their doors to public diners. Here’s a selection of places to eat:

  • La Stua dei Ladins – Italian pastas, traditional Ladin cuisine and big pizzas as well as a large cellar of local and international wines.
  • La Montanara – An Osteria serving traditional Ladin dishes. Lots of meat options including roasted pork and hearty stews. The atmosphere is cosy and the service as friendly as you’ll find.
  • El Ciasel – In an easy-to-find central location, this restaurant in a hotel serves mostly traditional Italian meat and pasta dishes and is often ranked as one of the best places in town for the ever popular pizzas.

Family Features

As well as the good range of family entertainments in the ‘Activities’ tab, Canazei also has an excellent ski school for children ages 3 and up. If snowboarding is your thing, there is a dedicated snowboard school in neighbouring Campitello.
