Overview of Ellmau

Ellmau enjoys a great reputation for families, thanks to the short transfer time and impressive selection of beginner and intermediate slopes. Being on the northern side of SkiWelt ski region, the resort also boasts consistent snowfall despite its lower resort height (820m).

In addition to the beginner friendly slopes, there is also plenty for the more experienced skiers, the ‘Black East’ section of the mountain would be the place to go for a more challenging descent.

The picturesque setting is featured in the German-Austrian television series "Bergdoktor" (Mountain Medic), so expect some fantastic scenery along with the occasional celebrity encounter. Finally, even though this may be seen as a family orientated resort, it is still Austria, meaning après won’t be hard to find.

3 Things We Love About Ellmau

  1. Perfect for families
  2. All round competitive prices
  3. Good snowfall along with efficient snow making facilities

Skiing and Boarding in Ellmau

The family feel of the resort itself is reinforced by the skiing available. Of the 280km of available pistes, the majority will be beginner/ intermediate, keeping the first time skiers interested with plenty of choice.

The Intersport Kaiserpark gives beginners and experts the chance to practise their freestyle skills together, with easy and more challenging lines on offer. The accompanying chill out area is the perfect place to exchange your tales of the best tricks of the day.

Those who are feeling brave can test their speed and challenge their friends on the ‘speed measurement runs’. What better way to see who’s buying the first round.

Activities in Ellmau

Continuing the family theme, Ellmau is well set up for kid’s activities, but the rest of the family won’t have trouble keeping themselves entertained either.

  • Swimming pool Kaiserbad- Multiple swimming pools, a lazy river, sauna and more. This is the perfect answer on a bad weather day or just when you fancy a relaxing afternoon.
  • Ellmau Ski Nightshow- Every Monday the après continues into the night with music, mulled wine and demonstrations from the ski instructors.
  • Tobogganing- A hike (or lift) up from the Ellmau Parish Church will see you at the entrance of the toboggan run. If you venture a bit higher you can experience the full 3km run back down to the village, available through the day and into the evening.
  • Snowbike Course- if you’re ready for a new experience on the slopes why not try your hand at Snowbiking. Experienced instructors are available to show you the ropes, however don’t worry, we hear it’s just like riding a bike…

Après Ski in Ellmau

  • Pub 66- A great place to start your Ellmau après journey. Themed nights along with a traditional Austrian vibe make Pub 66 one of the most popular in the resort.
  • Memory Bar- Open till late every day offering up drinks, pizza, ice cream, music and more. Probably best to book ahead and this combination attracts a bit of a crowd.
  • Fabels- ‘Every day it´s Party-time in Fabels’. Something they seems to be living up to, with ‘special shots’ and daily DJs.

Places to eat in Ellmau

There won’t be any difficulty finding traditional and interesting cuisine in Ellmau. The resort may not be as vast as some but it still packs a gastronomic punch all throughout the day and into the evening.

  • Das Oachkatzl- Regional, seasonal food is on the menu here. Friendly service and a great atmosphere make this a must when you venture into Ellmau.
  • Ellmauer Alm- Ski to the door and enjoy the traditional Tyrolean delicacies, served up day and night. At the valley station of the Vetterstätter lift, the Ellmauer Alm also plays host to the weekly Ski Instructor Ball. Not one to be missed.
  • Ruebezahl-Alm- Located on the piste, this family run Mountain getaway is an ideal option for a lunch stop with the kids. As this is Austria, there’ll also be beers and dancing available!

Family Features

With fantastic facilities for kids, both on and off the slopes, Ellmau may well become your Austrian resort of choice.

The Kaiserbad leisure centre is well-equipped to keep the whole family entertained when you’re not making the most of the wide selection and beginner and intermediate pistes.
