Ski holiday FAQs

What’s the best time to go on a ski holiday?

It depends on you! Christmas or New Years can make for a magical experience. You typically get the most snow in February and early to mid March, but there's often another huge snowfall right at the end of the season in April. If you're travelling as a family, you may be restricted by peak dates, and the slopes will likely be a little busier. January can be a sweet spot for empty slopes, but it still holds a chill and you're less sure of bluebird days.

What is the best ski resort for a ski holiday?

While there are a few exceptions, your group will have a great time wherever you go, as long as you opt for a snow-sure resort. If you have particular requirements, our Ski Specialists can help you but focus on what the best property for you is, whether that's a catered chalet, self-catered apartment or hotel.

What is the best ski accommodation on ski holidays?

We have a wide range of chalets, hotels and apartments. In each category there’s budget and luxury options, and everything in between, with different amenities and locations. Don’t forget when looking at prices, a catered chalet includes evening three - or four-course meals accompanied by wine as well as breakfast, so this can be great value.

Think about what three things are most important to you on a ski holiday and let our knowledgeable team take the pressure off by giving you a few options to choose between.

How long are the transfers between airports and ski resorts?

That really depends on the resort itself, snow conditions, time of the season and traffic overall. The majority of the resorts we offer are the most snow-sure in Europe, which means you generally need to drive higher up the mountain to get to them.

Naturally, traffic on the weekend can be heavier with other keen skiers both local and from further afield, especially after a fresh snowfall! We fly into your destination airport early so we have the best chance of not getting seriously caught up in all this, plus you'll likely then have the afternoon to familiarise yourself with the resort and grab your ski hire ahead of your first day on the slopes.

With our experience, in France we’ve found Grenoble airport offers the best compromise between distance and reliability as the weather patterns around Chambery frequently stop planes actually landing!

What does "snow-sure" mean?

Snow-sure ski resorts are the resorts most likely to be blanketed with snow throughout the season, usually due to their altitude as well as the orientation of their slopes. Resorts such as Val Thorens (the highest in Europe) will be open from early December, often through to early May. Tignes and Les Deux Alpes are similar with glacier access, but all the resorts we operate hold this promise.

Your ski holiday is as important to us as it is to you so we chose these resorts to make sure you can hit the slopes with confidence, anytime in the ski season.

Are ski holidays just Saturday to Saturday?

Not at all! While many of our holidays run Saturday to Saturday to take advantage of our charter flights and coach transfers, helping keep costs down, we now also offer Sunday to Sunday departures and short chalet breaks of three or four nights departing Monday or Thursday.

For tailor-made trips to Switzerland, Italy and Canada, you can often choose the day that suits you best, subject to availability.
