Ski Holidays in the Three Valleys - France

Three legendary resorts, one seriously impressive playground. Home to Méribel, Courchevel and Val Thorens, Les Trois Vallées is the largest linked ski area in Europe and it shows. With over 660km of pistes and more than 330 runs to explore, this is skiing on a grand scale. Wide cruising blues, thigh-burning reds, high alpine bowls, tree-lined descents and glacier terrain all sit within one seamless network. Modern lifts, speedy gondolas and mountain railways keep you moving, so you spend less time queuing and more time carving.

Each resort brings its own personality to the mix. Meribel delivers classic alpine charm, Courchevel blends luxury with perfectly groomed slopes, and Val Thorens guarantees high-altitude, snow-sure skiing with a lively edge. From cosy chalets and stylish hotels to long lunches, relaxed evenings and plenty to do off the slopes, there is something here for every kind of ski holiday. At Skiworld, we know the Three Valleys inside out and we love sharing the best bits with you.

Ski Resorts in the Three Valleys

Slightly decieving by name, the Three Valleys are actually made up of four valleys: Meribel, Courchevel, Val Thorens and Orelle. While Orelle is slightly on the smaller side, it's ideal for skiers searching for quieter slopes. Check out our quick run down of four of the main resorts to discover which is right for you.

Courchevel

Spread across four villages from 1350m to 1800m, Courchevel is far more varied than its glossy reputation might suggest. Yes, you’ll find an impressive line-up of five-star hotels and designer boutiques, but there’s a side to Courchevel that suits every style and budget too, from welcoming chalets to relaxed apartments with doorstep access to the slopes.

It’s also a dream for food lovers. Long lunches on sunny mountain terraces, Michelin-starred masterpieces, cosy Savoyard spots and simple, satisfying pizzas after a day on the hill, Courchevel serves it all, and serves it well.

Meribel

Set in the heart of the Three Valleys, Meribel is perfectly placed for exploring it all. With seamless links across to Courchevel and Val Thorens, you can clock up serious miles before midday. The resort itself is classic Alpine through and through with chocolate-box chalets of wood and stone, snowy rooftops and winding streets that feel straight out of a ski daydream. And when the lifts close, the day doesn't end.  The après scene is legendary, from dancing on the terrace at La Folie Douce to late-night laps at the iconic Rond Point (Ronnie’s), Meribel knows exactly how to turn a great ski day into an even better night.

Val Thorens

Don’t forget the ‘secret’ fourth valley of Orelle, which is accessible via Val Thorens. When the snow is good the terrain is almost unmatched and well worth getting first lifts for. The relatively small village, which is largely pedestrianised, means it’s easy to find your way to the lifts, to après and back to your chalet without setting foot on a bus all week. As the highest resort in Europe, the snow in Val Thorens is guaranteed from the start to the end of the season. That means the party starts sooner and goes on and on… and on!

Les Menuires

Just below Val Thorens, Les Menuires offers all the access of the Three Valleys with a gentler, more laid-back pace. It’s a quieter base with a refreshingly down-to-earth feel, ideal for families or anyone looking to ease into the world’s largest ski area without diving straight into the deep end.

The slopes here are packed with wide, confidence-boosting blues and cruisy reds, perfect for finding your rhythm before venturing further afield. And with self-catered options available, Les Menuires gives you the freedom to ski big by day and keep things relaxed by night. It's a true taste of the Three Valleys, minus the frenzy.
