Overview of St Cristina Val Gardena

St Cristina is the heart of Val Gardena, both geographically and spiritually. The quaint mountain village is home to a local year-round population who are both architects and benefactors of the community, lifestyle and village charm you’ll get a taste of when you visit this magical little place.

After a day exploring the Sellaronda ski circuit, marvelling at the breathtaking mountain views and having your tastebuds tickled by some of the most stunning mountain gastronomy, skiing back into Santa Cristina village is the icing on the cake. You won’t want to leave.

3 Things We Love About St Cristina Val Gardena

  1. From the parish church of Santa Cristina to the Fischburg Castle (on the way to Selva) to the Val Gardena railway, this village is steeped in rich history with records dating back to the 13th century.
  2. Access to the Sellaronda ski circuit and the rest of the Dolomiti Superski area.
  3. The relaxed atmosphere and immersive Ladin culture is unique and makes for a blissful and memorable ski holiday

Skiing and Snowboarding in St Cristina Val Gardena

Hopping on the Saslong cable car from the centre of the village you’ll be whisked up the valley towards Ciampioni - the gateway to the Sellaronda ski circuit and the wider Dolomiti Superski area, all 1,200km of it.

The ski area itself is a delight for intermediate skiers and encouragingly accessible for novices too. Expert skiers will find pockets of steep and challenging terrain, but the real joy of skiing in this area is the magnificent scenery and the unforgettable (and plentiful!) mountain gastronomy.

If you want to put your children through ski school, the level of tuition is excellent but you’ll probably need to hop on the bus each morning to Selva unless your hotel provides a complimentary shuttle (some do).

Lift Passes in St Cristina Val Gardena

A local Val Gardena pass is available, and possibly a reasonable choice for beginners or families with young children looking to ski together all week. If you have any aspiration to explore (and to be honest, that’s probably why you’ve chose to come here), you should opt for a Dolomiti Superski pass, which not only allows you access the Sellaronda, but also all the slopes and 12 villages of the wider ski area.

Activities in St Cristina Val Gardena

As a ski village and not a major ski resort, there isn’t a wealth of non-skiing activities on offer in St Cristina, but when not skiing you could enjoy the following:

  • Explore the historic streets and landmarks
  • Take the cable car to the summit for lunch, without your skis
  • Hop on the ski bus (you can get a great value weekly pass) and visit neighbouring villages of Selva and Ortsei
  • Head to the Mar Dolomit leisure and pool complex in Ortesei for a swim and spa session

Après Ski in St Cristina Val Gardena

  • Eguia Micro Brewery – Located in the Hotel Interski, enjoy a range of craft beers brewed in-house

Places to eat in St Cristina Val Gardena

  • Cendevaves - Tyrolean style restaurant with a large sun terrace and beautiful views of the Sassolungo.
  • L Fudle – A traditional Tyrolean ‘Stube’, open all day (so a good option for breakfast too, if you like). Has a café kind of vibe but also an extensive evening menu including favourites like pizzas and pastas. Families and large parties well catered for.
  • La Tambra – A steakhouse located in the centre of town serving a full range of meat dishes including burgers, as well as pizzas and a good selection of non-meat options for both starter and main course.

Family Features

Children’s ski school is excellent in all areas of Val Gardena and most hotels cater very well for families too. There isn’t a family focus on specific amenities owing to the small size of St Cristina but you’ll feel very welcome when travelling with young children whether on or off the slopes.
