TIGNES ski RESORT

Supremely convenient access to snow sure slopes

One of the largest and most convenient of the purpose-built resorts, Tignes’ high altitude and excellent snow record of Tignes make it an ideal location for skiing and boarding fanatics the world over. There are three high-altitude villages in Tignes: Le Lavachet, Le Lac and Val Claret, all linked by free buses 24 hours a day, giving easy access to the skiing. The combined lift systems of Tignes and Val d’Isère (the famous Espace Killy - 300km of marked runs) have long been recognised as offering some of the very best skiing and boarding in the world.

"There are many reasons to love Tignes, which is why we can forgive the somewhat unsightly architecture. The slopes surrounding Tignes are the main attraction; the Espace Killy (which includes the terrain of Tignes and Val D’Isère) is one of the best areas in Europe for all abilities. Tignes nightlife is good too, and the people are friendly. There are a number of areas to Tignes. Initially you will see Tignes Le Brévières (at 1550m), a traditional and peaceful town with a beautiful Baroque church. You will then arrive in Tignes Les Boisses (at 1850m). This is another quiet area but you can ski to and from it fairly easily. The hub of Tignes is focused at 2100m, which is split into another three areas: Lavachet, Le Lac and Val Claret. Lavachet and Le Lac are next to each other and it’s easy to walk between them. Val Claret is a bus/car journey away from the other two.

The Espace Killy (Tignes / Val D’Isère) is one of the largest ski areas in the Alps. It is also one of the most diverse, with many options for all levels of rider from good green and blue runs all the way to immense freeriding terrain and great freestyle parks both in Tignes and Val D’Isère. On top of this the height of the resort almost guarantees good snow all the way down into the resort. Summer skiing is also popular on the Tignes glacier.

The newest addition to après ski activities available in Tignes is the Aqua Centre that sits on Tignes lakeside. This 5000m2 spa includes 3 pools, 4 water slides, hydro-massage, and fitness rooms. Alternatively take a helicopter flight over Tignes, try horse riding, drive huskies, climb on ice on Tignes floodlit frozen waterfall, dive under the ice in Tignes lake, skidoo on the slopes of the Espace Killy, snowshoe or take part in a torchlit descent."

SkiING AND SNOWBOARDING in tignes

The skiing area stretches from the Grande Motte glacier at 3456m down to the villages of Le Fornet and Les Brevieres at either end of the ski area. Beginners will find some good nursery slopes, whilst intermediates will find many wide and lengthy pistes, enabling them to ski from one end of the resort to the other using only blue and red runs. Experts should not miss the steep mogul fields at Tovière and Solaise and incredible off-piste such as Le Tour du Charvet, Le Grand Vallon and the Col du Pers (which should only be explored with the help of a guide).

APRES SKI in Tignes

Two of the popular après-ski venues in Tignes are Crowded House and The Fish Tank, offering a fun night for all. Popular in Lavachet is TC’s Bar, The Yeti, Jacks bar, Le Brasero (with live music 4 times a week) and in Lac there are good DJs at the Loop Bar. For those still with energy the swimming pool, “Le Lagon”, boasts slides, a waterfall, adult and children’s pools, as well as Jacuzzis, a large stam room and a gym. Other après activities in Tignes include bowling, a natural ice rink, and dancing till the early hours in Jacks or Melting Pot.
