As the 2020 Christmas ski season approaches we have put together a list of various snow-sure resorts that would be perfect for the holidays.
Val d’Isère is home to some of the best runs, bars, clubs and restaurants in the Alps, and can also guarantee you’ll get snow. Being home to two glaciers, The Pissaillas and Grande Motte, you can ensure snow is available throughout the season. Additionally, the resort benefits from snow from Italy, as well as the north and north-west.
Val d’isère is destined to be more popular than ever, so be sure to book as early as possible. We recommend Chalet Val Rogoney – an chalet nestled in an ideal ski-in location next to the piste and just 350m from the town centre.
Val Thorens sits proudly at the summit of the awesome ‘Le Trois Vallees’ (The Three Valleys), often peering down, perhaps gloating, at the below resorts, marvelling in its copious amounts of fresh snow.
This resort sits at 2,300m, so snow is never really an issue. Not only this, but as a member of the famous Three Valleys, and the fact that it has great links to neighbouring resorts, it also benefits from everlasting amounts of skiing. With live DJ’s, a choice of over 40 bars, restaurants and clubs and a newly renovated leisure centre, Val Thorens is a resort that has it all.
We recommend Chalet Coucher du Soleil – located a short walk from the piste.
Tignes is known by some as Val d’Isere’s little sister, but don’t let that fool you for one second! Lifts open here as early as October so you can see why we are confident enough to put it on our Christmas list. Benefiting from the same glaciers as Val d’Isere (The Pissaillas and Grande Motte) you will not be left disappointed.
This high action resort is all about Go, Go, Go! If it’s hardcore skiing with extra activities such as ice skating, cross-country skiing, husky dog sledding and ice diving that interests you then Tignes is the one. With a decent selection of bars, you are never too far from the party either.
After all this action you are going to need a place to sink into pure comfort and the spot we recommend for that is Chalet Giorgio. A fantastic chalet close to the piste and with a beautiful interior and a private sauna. Be sure you snap this one up before someone else does!
Canada and USA
Canada and the USA have some truly epic resorts which are perfect for Christmas skiing. Vail in the Colorado Rockies is the largest single resort in the USA, with beautiful tree-lined runs, fantastic views, and a great range of restaurants, bars and boutiques. Or the ever-popular Whistler Blackcomb in Canada which has over 8,000 acres of skiable area including 200+ marked runs. This will definitely be guaranteed to keep you challenged and entertained during the Christmas week.
St Anton in Austria makes for a top snow-sure resort to visit for Christmas, with a huge helping of festive charm and traditional decorations. The Arlberg ski area around St Anton boasts over 300km of amazing pistes and access to several villages where you can celebrate and join in the festive revelry with the locals. Check out our ‘Mountain Cloud chalets; Cirrus, Stratus and Nimbus for a luxurious home-from-home this Christmas.
