Complete Guide to Tignes Ski Holidays

Tignes

Tignes Le Lac

Tignes is part of the Tignes-Val d’Isere ski area (formally the Espace Killy ski area), which includes the neighboring resort of Val d’Isere, offering over 300km of pistes for skiers of all levels. There are plenty of beginner slopes, as well as challenging black runs and off-piste terrain for advanced skiers. The resort also offers night skiing, snowboarding, and cross-country skiing, as well as ski schools for all ages and abilities.

When to Go to Tignes

Tignes is one of the highest ski resorts in the Alps, so the snow coverage is usually good throughout the season, and the lifts stay open until early May. January and February are the busiest months, so if you’re looking for a quieter experience, consider visiting in December, March or April. Booking early is advised, as Tignes is a popular resort, and accommodations can fill up quickly.

Choosing the Right Accommodation

Tignes has a wide range of accommodation options, from exciting hotels to self-catered apartments, making it easy to find something to suit your needs and budget. It is recommended to stay in Val Claret for the best access to the slopes and lively nightlife, or in Le Lac if you prefer a quieter location.

Skiworld chalets in Tignes offer a cosy home-from-home accommodation including catering consisting of breakfast, afternoon tea & cake and evening meals, including wine. Tignes chalets are all close to a piste or ski lift and the 24-hour bus service means you can pick your runs and never have to worry about how you’ll get home (just don’t get stuck on the Val d’Isère side after lifts close as this will cost you).

Après-Ski and Restaurants in Tignes

Tignes has a lively après-ski scene with plenty of bars, restaurants, and nightclubs to keep you entertained. The Loop Bar in Val Claret is popular for live music and a vibrant atmosphere, or the Marmot Arms in Le Lac for a more relaxed après-ski experience.

On the whole, restaurants are geared towards being affordable which means the average holidaymaker can enjoy multiple cuisines on a budget. High-end restaurants are available though – for discerning foodies or for a special occasion.

Other Activities in Tignes

The resort also offers a range of other activities, such as ice skating, swimming and bowling, for those looking for something a little different. Try out ice diving or take a scenic helicopter flight over the mountains. There are also plenty of shops and spas in the resort, so you can indulge in some retail therapy or relaxation after a day on the slopes.
