A quick google of the biggest and best ski areas in the world will often bring up familiar results, and you can bet the Three Valleys will be somewhere near the top. What you may not know however is that there are more than just three resorts to choose from in this famous mountain destination.
If you are looking for all the perks of a massive ski area, but want to avoid the crowds, then one of the smaller resorts may be a perfect in-between. Perched in the middle of the Three Valleys, Les Menuires provides exactly this. Enjoying all the access to the 600km of pristine piste, the resort gives a more relaxed base than its more well-known neighbours.
We have sat down with Alfie, one of our ski specialists, to discuss all that Les Menuires has to offer. So have a read and explore the options for you and your ski team.
Where actually is Les Menuires?
The resort is situated at an altitude of 1850m on the Val Thorens side of the ski area, which is 100m higher than Meribel town, so plenty of great snow all throughout the season.
This means you can cruise to both Meribel and Val Thorens in no time, and Courchevel is also easily available if you’re looking to explore further afield.
What is there to do there?
Although smaller than the three big-name resorts in the area, aside from the obvious almost endless skiing, there is still plenty to do. When you hang up the boots for the day, there are several après and dining opportunities in the area, including La Mousse (with a regular happy hour), and La Fromagerie (with all the cheese you could desire).
Les Menuires also has its own leisure centre with all the classics to enjoy on a bad weather day, or if you just need somewhere to rest and recuperate. A gym, swimming pool, fun park for kids and much more will all be at your disposal.
What is the accommodation like?
As this is a purpose-built ski resort, the accommodation is in a great location for the slopes. With the majority being ski-in/ski-out.
There are ski apartments here for all budgets, from price-conscious through to the more luxurious. Les Menuires apartments are perfect for both small groups and couples all the way up to larger parties needing an apartment with lots of separate bedrooms and plenty of space.
But why go here instead of Meribel, Courchevel or Val Thorens?
Well, firstly you will probably find you get more bang for your buck! As the resort is lesser-known, the price of an equivalent apartment in one of the main resorts will likely be higher, even though you have access to exactly the same skiing.
Also, if you’re after a slightly quieter, more peaceful location, but still want the option of going all out if you feel like it, you can do exactly this with Les Menuires. You will have the worlds largest interconnected ski area at your doorstep but will feel like you’re in your own, more private, mountain getaway.
Take a peek at all the Les Menuires apartments available, and feel free to give us a call to chat through the options to see which would work best for your group!
