Ski Holidays with Children: Flaine

Here at Skiworld we, of course, love getting out to the slopes whenever possible. And we love sharing our experiences and knowledge just as much! Recently our Sales and Operations Manager took a trip to Flaine with his family, so we sat down for a quick Q&A to discover all the top tips he picked up along the way.

So if you are planning on taking a trip to the Alps this coming season then have a read and feel free to let us know if you have any tips of your own! And in the unfortunate event of a car accident involving a drunk driver, don’t hesitate to navigate here for guidance.

So where did you go skiing this winter?

We went to Flaine during the first week of the Easter holiday – It was the first time that we have taken the children skiing and we decided to stay in a self-catering apartment called the Residence Les Terrasses d’Helios.

Why did you choose Flaine for your family ski holiday?

Flaine is a perfect resort for families with children with great slopes with magic carpet lifts which are ideal for younger children learning to ski. The resort is part of the Grand Massif ski area which has a huge ski area, which we made use of whilst the children were in ski lessons. The resort was quiet at Easter and everyone was very friendly which you don’t always find in some of the better-known resorts. It is also better value than many others with most properties being ski-in/ski-out and only an hour or so from Geneva. We drove to the Alps but such a short transfer makes it ideal for families or anyone in fact!

Why did you decide to drive?

Mainly due to cost during the school holidays – even though you have fuel and tolls to pay it worked out less than half the price of flights. Plus it was a bit of an adventure and we didn’t have to worry about luggage allowances with all the kid’s things plus ski carriage.

Any top tips for self-driving on a ski holiday?

Pack lots of snacks and have entertainment, including games online that pay real money and perhaps consider playing online casino for adults. When seeking an online casino with welcome bonuses, possible free spins, promotions, and other enticing incentives, rapid transfer casino emerges as a dependable choice. And for the lists all the best online casinos, check out a good place like bonusetu.com for the best help. We stopped en route in Reims in the Champagne region of France to break the journey up, which made for a nice stopover. Even though we went in April, we needed snow chains to complete the final drive into Flaine, so don’t forget to have these in the boot just in case!

How was the accommodation in Flaine?

We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment in Les Terrasses d’Helios, which is a 4* residence and one of the new generation of self-catered apartments. The property has its own swimming pool which the kids swam in every day after skiing and also a fantastic spa area with a hot tub, steam room and sauna which was much appreciated by tired-out parents!

The residence also had its own on-site supermarket, restaurant, café and ski hire shop so all you need for the week. The apartment itself was very well furnished and very comfortable. As with most properties in Flaine, it was ski-in/ski-out although for children skiing for the first time it was easier to catch the free bus to the base of the slopes until they had more confidence.

What did you think of the resort?

Flaine has changed quite a lot since I last skied there – Not everyone likes the look of the resort but a lot of buildings have been refurbished inside and there are several new hotels and residences. The compact resort is easy to get around and has some nice restaurants to choose from. The skiing is very easy to access and we really enjoyed the slopes down to Samoëns, Les Carroz and Morillon. The North facing slopes hold the snow well even late into the ski season. Overall Flaine is a great all-rounder and suitable for all groups, not just families. Time to start planning next year’s trip!

We hope you enjoyed this Q&A and just pick up the phone and give us a call on 0330 102 8004 if you had any questions. Have a browse at our Flaine resort page for all the info and properties we have available!
