Where to ski at New Year?

If you want to do New Year in the Alps properly, you need to head to Tignes, rated the third best place in the world to spend the 31st of December, according to the Guardian. Big name DJs grace the resort with a free outdoor party every year and the fireworks can be seen across the Tarantaise Valley!

Val d’Isère is home to some of the best slopes in Europe and has a vibrant après-ski that can’t be matched. On New Years Eve, head down to the roundabout in the centre of town for an unofficial gathering offering their own countdown, but look out for the champagne corks flying through the air at the stroke of midnight. You may even spot a celebrity or two skiing on the slopes or in one of the many bars.

Other ski resorts for breaks at New Year include Les Deux Alpes, renowned for its superb snow conditions and buzzing town centre. Then there is the trendy ski resort of Méribel nestled in the Trois Vallées where the local bars put on their own New Year shaped celebrations after the Torchlit Descent. The more adventurous may wish to venture to Mayrhofen in Austria, where the fireworks start at midday and the street parties go on all night!
