Overview of Les Deux Alpes

There are only two things associated with the number two in Les Deux Alpes ski resort – the two mountain villages and the 2km long strip that joins them to create the resort. Otherwise, it’s all about the number ones – the highest skiable glacier in France, the greatest lift-served French off-piste ski area, the largest snowpark in Europe, the hub of the European freestyle scene and, if you’re down with the right crowd, the best party experience in the Alps!

Situated on the cusp of the Northern and Southern Alps only two hours from Grenoble airport, Les Deux Alpes ski area brings together beginner and expert skiers, as well as families and party people.

Despite the fact that development of the Les Deux Alpes ski resort has not always been in keeping with its historic alpine village roots (make sure you head to the Venosc end of town if you are looking for a bit of alpine charm), there are still some beautiful traditional chalets and Les Deux Alpes apartments to suit all budgets.

The main strip is a venerable entertainment highway, with ski lifts leading up the hill on each side by day and bars and restaurants enticing you in by night. While this may not appeal to all, there’s no denying that Les Deux Alpes holiday-goers will not be disappointed.

3 Things We Love About Les Deux Alpes

  1. Good access to the pistes - A huge range of great-value apartments, chalets and hotels, all a short walk to the lifts.
  2. Off-piste skiing - Renowned for excellent off-piste skiing, in addition to its 225km of marked runs.
  3. Glacier skiing - Glacier skiing that’s perfect for beginners and intermediates at an altitude of up to 3,600m.

The Les Deux Alpes 6 Day Pass grants you access to the full 225km of pisted runs and 51 ski lifts. The area is split to 4 distinct areas. Vallée Blanche; the smaller, unlinked area served by lifts from either end of town, Les Crêtes; the beginners area at village level, Toura; the high attitude area above Les Crêtes featuring mainly blue and red runs and finally; Glacier Du Mont-De-Lans; the highest area peaking at 3500 metres. The ski area is also linked to the resort of La Grave. This is off-piste paradise requires a separate lift pass and we recommend a guide.

        • For beginners Les Crêtes is perfect – large and spacious featuring 5 free lifts. For those looking to progress to blue runs the Toura area features some cruisey blue runs, however, we do recommend getting the lift down at the end of the day... The runs into resort can be quite challenging!
        • For intermediates the Glacier runs are good place to start – a selection of wide blue and red pistes. The Vallée Blanche area is another area to try out at least once. Due to its size and being unlinked from the rest of the ski area tends to be quiet. The runs from the top of La Toura lift can also be a good challenge.
        • For advanced Fee 5 and 6 in the Toura area have some nice steep sections and hold the snow well during the season. For those looking for the ultimate challenge you should consider a guided tour of La Grave – one of the best off-piste areas in the world.
