Killy won triple Olympic Gold at the 1968 Winter Olympics and dominated the downhill ski events at the World Championships in \u201967 and \u201968. But no more- it now has the less exciting but more descriptive name Tignes-Val d&#8217;Isere Ski Area.<\/p>\n<p>Tignes and Val d\u2019Is\u00e8re are connected by the 300 kilometres of fantastic skiable terrain in the area. This includes high alpine, gladed trees and two glaciers. At your disposal will be 150+ ski runs and 1,900 metres of vertical descents with varying difficulties to explore. It&#8217;s an area you\u2019ll keep coming back to winter after winter.<\/p>\n<p>Want to learn more? You can walk from one end to the other in about forty minutes. However, the resort centre is a hive of bustling activity at almost all hours, which you can\u2019t help but be distracted by.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.skiworld.co.uk\/ski-holidays\/france\/tignes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tignes<\/a> on the other hand is really a collection of resort villages; Le Lavachet, 1800 and Les Br\u00e9vi\u00e8res. Here the Lac de Tignes is a major focal point between the main villages of Le Lac and Val Claret. The temptation to explore the variety of these villages means you\u2019ll want to go back next year to see what the others have to offer!<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Snowboarding and Skiing in Tignes-Val D&#8217;Isere<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>In Val d\u2019Is\u00e8re, le Face is the piece de r\u00e9sistance for any brave skier or boarder. The men\u2019s Olympic downhill run is steep and long enough to turn even the most iron of legs into jelly by the bottom. But \u201cAnything you can do\u201d says Tignes, as it throws the 10km long \u2018Le Sache\u2019 into the mix. From the top of Aiguille Perc\u00e9e, this thigh-burning run dissects the valley all the way down to Tignes-les-Br\u00e9vi\u00e8res.<\/p>\n<p>For beginners and intermediates, Val d\u2019Is\u00e8re offers 19% green runs compared to only one solitary green in Tignes. However over half the marked runs in Tignes are blues. Overall, Tignes probably has more to offer the intermediate, as the easier runs are wider and less crowded on the whole. Check out the Prariond run from the top of the Fresse chair.<\/p>\n<p>For some quiet time, Le Fornet in Val d\u2019Is\u00e8re and l\u2019Aiguille Perc\u00e9e in Tignes will often feel deserted in comparison to the rest of the area. Lots of uncrowded slopes, minimal (if any) lift queues and some immaculately groomed pistes to carve especially first thing in the morning.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_11204\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\" https:\/\/www.skiworld.co.uk\/ski-holidays\/france\/tignes\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11204\" class=\"size-full wp-image-11204\" src=\" https:\/\/www.skiworld.co.uk\/images\/uploads\/photos\/large\/tignes_fireworks_at_new_years_14663.jpg\" alt=\" Tignes \" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-11204\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Celebrations in Tignes. \u00a9TristanShu.com<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<h3><strong>Ski \u2018round the world\u2019 in Tignes and Val d\u2019Is\u00e8re<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>A great way to experience some of the best ski runs Tignes and Val d\u2019Is\u00e8re is to try our seasonaire\u2019s favourite \u2018Round the World\u2019 route:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Begin at the Olympique Cable Car in Val d\u2019Is\u00e8re. Then take the blue Diebold run from the top all the way down some excellent flowing runs to the Tommeuse chairlift.<\/li>\n<li>Then ski down Henri to Val Claret in Tignes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>Seasonaire Tip:<\/strong> If you keep your speed at the bottom you can make it all the way to Aspen Burger for an early lunch!<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Across the flat area at the bottom of Henri is the Tichot chair. This will get you to the bottom of the Grattalu chair if you go left at the top and traverse the slope \u2013 don\u2019t go down!<\/li>\n<li>Join Le Mur and then Merles further down, which eventually joins the blue Lac run about half way to the bottom. Here you should ski like you mean it to the base!<\/li>\n<li>Hop on the Grand Huit chairlift and take the long runs Perce-Neige and Combe down into Tignes Le Lac.<\/li>\n<li>Jump in the Toviere gondola and look for a blue run named Creux. This will get you back towards Val d\u2019Is\u00e8re.<\/li>\n<li>Stay right and keep your eyes peeled to join the Edelweiss run at the junction. This provides long carving turns all the way down to the Marmottes lift in Tignes.<\/li>\n<li>At the top of Marmottes comes the final challenge \u2013 will you cop out?
