new year ski holiday 2015 - Fireworks in Tignes ski resort

New Year is already one of the most exciting times of year, so why not make it truly memorable by celebrating with a New Year ski holiday for 2017?
Extend the seasonal festivities and depart a couple of days after Christmas and return in time for the kids to go back to school - Just imagine the happiness and enjoyment of bringing in the New Year surrounded by snow and late festive perks. For an unforgettable start to the year, why not see in the New Year skiing in Europe, USA, Canada or even Japan? Take your pick from our many fabulous ski resorts, including the best snow-sure destinations in France, Austria and Switzerland.

With New Year’s Day falling on a Sunday we’ve moved our usual travel day of a Saturday (New Year’s Eve) to Tuesday 27th December. No one wants to be travelling when you should be gearing up to see in the New Year, there are clearly better things to be doing.
We will be flying to Austria, France or Switzerland on the 27th so wherever you’re thinking of celebrating New Year’s, we’ve made sure that your celebrations (not travelling) will take centre stage.
January 2nd is also a bank holiday, so you won’t need to take that off work which is just another bonus for travelling on the Tuesday.

We've plenty of options for where to spend your New Year ski break, depending on what you want from your holiday. For a New Year ski holiday in Europe, take your pick from AustriaFrance or Switzerland.

With such a wide variety of destinations to choose from around the world, it can be tricky to find the right skiing holiday for you at any time of the year, and at New Year can be even trickier! Your ideal location could differ depending on your skiing ability, the size of your group, and the type of New Year ski holiday you’re looking for, so here are a few suggestions to help you decide.

If you want to do New Year in the Alps properly, you need to head to Tignes. Big name DJs grace the ski resort with a free outdoor party every year, and the fireworks can be seen across the Tarantaise Valley! Tignes is an especially brilliant location for your New Year ski holiday if you enjoy a good party.

Val d’Isère is home to some of the best ski slopes in Europe, and has a vibrant après-ski that can’t be matched. On New Year’s Eve, head down to the roundabout in the centre of town for an unofficial gathering that offers their own countdown, but look out for the champagne corks flying through the air at the stroke of midnight. You may even spot a celebrity or two skiing on the slopes or in one of the many bars.

Other ski resorts for breaks at New Year include Les Deux Alpes, renowned for its superb snow conditions and buzzing town centre. Then there is the trendy ski resort of Méribel nestled in the Trois Vallées where the local bars put on their own New Year shaped celebrations after the Torchlit Descent. The more adventurous may wish to venture to Mayrhofen in Austria, where the fireworks start at midday and the street parties go on all night!

As we are one of the only tour operators offering ski chalets in USA this season, peak dates like New Year are selling out quickly. We still have some availability in Vail, the largest ski resort in the USA and the largest single ski mountain in North America where, at New Year, you can enjoy holiday themed family activities throughout the day, as well as live performances and star-studded parties all night.

If you are looking for a cheap skiing trip at New Year we have great deals on a number of self catering ski apartments. These are ideal for families or smaller groups that like to do New Year their own way, and have the privacy of their own home from home set in the beautiful snowy mountains. You can be certain to find a New Year skiing holiday that suits your style of celebration, so don’t worry if you’re not really in the partying mood! We’re sure you’ll find a New Year ski break that suits your party, even if your group prefer a quieter New Year, enjoying the slopes and celebrations in a more leisurely fashion.

New Year skiing holidays are often popular with groups. Skiworld offer some great savings for groups travelling at New Year, with up to 2 in 10 people travelling free. We have a dedicated groups department to help tailor your perfect skiing holiday, whether you choose to stay in a chalet, hotel or self-catering apartment in Europe or North America.
