Everything about Whistler ski resort is designed and built with adventure in mind. From its humble beginnings as a fishing lodge in 1914, when reaching the area meant a 3 day trip by steamer and horseback, the adventurous spirit of these magnificent mountains has been leaving visitors beguiled.
Today, a mere 2 hours ride from Vancouver brings you to the 8000 acres of ski terrain provided by the Whistler and Blackcomb mountains - the largest ski area in North America offering 3 glaciers with 200 marked trails and a whopping 12 alpine bowls, as well as some of the most dramatic scenery and magnificent views in North America. Add to this one of the most advanced high-speed lift systems in the world and an average of 9.14m of snow a year and it's easy to see why Whistler was chosen as the host for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. The legacy of this has created yet another new attraction for visitors who want to relive the highs and lows of this event from the Olympic Park and the Medals Plaza for themselves.
The plethora of winter activities on offer in Whistler, as well as the best skiing and snowboarding in North America, includes heli- and cat-skiing, zip-lining, snowmobiling and snow-shoeing, dog and horse-sledding, Nordic skiing and bungee jumping to name but a few. And for those who prefer to get their kicks off the mountain, there are over 200 shops and boutiques, world-class spas and eateries and a buzzing and vibrant nightlife, plus the not-to-be-missed Fire and Ice show of a Sunday evening.

Basically, if you fancy yourself as a true Captain Scott on skis, Whistler should already be top of your list of places to ski or snowboard before you die. If you have time between all the activity, take a second to be still and take stock – if you listen carefully you may even be lucky enough to hear the shrill whistle of the hoary marmots that the resort takes its name from – the true pioneers of this mountain wonderland.

Not forgetting the children, Whistler Kids now has a reduced class size as well with a maximum of six kids per instructor at all times. On-mountain safety has also been improved with the addition of a GPS tracker for every child.
